A Brief History of Wine Ratings
Wine ratings are immensely helpful in providing us with a quick and painless guide to the questions “What should I drink?” or “What should I collect?”
The most popular system currently used to judge the quality of wines is the 100-point scale, invented by American critic Robert Parker in 1978. Since then, it has been adapted by many wine professionals throughout the world, including James Suckling, Jeff Leve (The Wine Cellar Insider), and Jeb Dunnuck.
What Do 95+ Wines Taste Like?
95 points or higher means you’re likely receiving an extraordinary wine of profound and complex character displaying all the attributes expected of a classic wine of its variety. Wines of this caliber are worth a special effort to find, purchase, and consume.
A few NEW and returning top-rated wines to expect:
100 Pt. Château Angélus St-Émilion Grand Cru 2015
100 Pt. Chateau Mouton Rothschild Pauillac 2020
98 Pt. Petrolo Galatrona Super Tuscan 2020
97 Pt. Bodegas Caro Mendoza Red Blend 2021
96 Pt. Tenuta Sette Ponti Podere Orma 2018
95 Pt. Château L’Enclos Pomerol 2018
95 Pt. Château Pontet-Canet Pauillac 2012
95 Pt. Viyuela Ribera Del Duero Reserva 2018
95 Pt. Kay Brothers Griffon’s Key Grenache 2020
Wine Expert Explains: Do Ratings Matter?
Marc Supsic, partner sommelier and DipWSET, shares, “Wine scores are subject to the individual palate of every wine drinker. It’s important not to let the ratings run the show and my suggestion is to look for a calculated consensus. If multiple respected wine critics are giving a wide array of high marks, you’re probably getting a nice wine. While scores and ratings are not the be-all end-all, there are some trusted sources out there that you can use as guidance as you build your skills – Wines ‘Til Sold Out being a great asset.
Remember, the best way to figure out if a wine is good or not is to develop and trust your own palate!”
These exclusive wines are perfect for elevating your dinner party or an awe-worthy wine gift for a seasoned collector. Even if you don’t have a special event coming up, you never know when a top-tier bottle will come in handy!

95+ point great to drink but how should we determine if it is a good wine to collect?
The point system, as I have found, is quite reliable.
I would like to receive comments on the rating of the past years as far as regions are concerned. Was it a good crop, due to weather or other factors per regions of the world.
That’s a great question! We have this blog post that we think could help you determine: https://www.wtso.com/blog/how-to-store-age-wines/ Look for the header “Understand What To Age”. Please let us know if you have any additional questions for us!
Are they going to be available all at once or one at a time??
Hi Kevin!
Please email [email protected] for what we have in stock!
Please email wines to be released for sale per the comment to Kevin.
Thank you

Who is rating the wine? WS? James Suckling? WTSO?
Hi Don!
Great question! The wines on this sale will be rated by various wine critics, journalists, and other wine professionals. =]

I find that the number is less important than the reviewer James Sucking resonates with my tastes, from 25+ years ago at WS.
Now his 95 rating may not equate to AG’s 93 or LM”s 98, but I know a high Suckling rating (94+) is a wine I’m really going to enjoy.
Hello Frank!
Everyone seems to have their favorite wine critic.
Hopefully we’ll have several wines for the event that James Suckling will have
high ratings for. Be sure to mark your calendar for next week’s event!
Cheers!
