From Manhattan to Walla Walla: The Story of Gramercy Cellars
Imagine a Manhattan sommelier tasting wines from Washington State and feeling so inspired that he sells everything and moves across the country to craft his own. That’s the incredible beginning of Gramercy Cellars, a winery that embodies the perfect blend of old-world finesse and new-world innovation.
Founded by the Harrington family in 2005, Gramercy Cellars is dedicated to creating Rhône and Bordeaux varietals with a focus on balance, elegance, and authenticity. With the near-perfect growing conditions in and around Walla Walla, their wines have become some of the most highly regarded in Washington State.
From Vine to Bottle, Capturing Washington’s Terroir
At Gramercy Cellars, great wine begins in the vineyard. The Harringtons meticulously manage three estate vineyards and oversee several others, prioritizing sustainability with mostly organic farming practices. Old vines, rocky soils, and Walla Walla’s ideal climate—characterized by long daylight hours and controlled irrigation—create the perfect conditions for their restrained yet powerful wines.
This dedication continues in the cellar, where a minimalist philosophy guides the winemaking. Fermentations are thoughtfully executed in concrete or oak, with minimal intervention. New oak is used sparingly, additives are avoided, and extended aging allows the wines to achieve their signature complexity and balance. The result is a lineup of honest, expressive wines that showcase the best of Washington State.

Gramercy Cellars “Lagniappe” Syrah Columbia Valley 2018
96, International Wine Report
A 100% Syrah from the Red Willow vineyards of Yakima Valley, that sees 98% whole cluster fermentation and just a touch of new oak during aging. This is a bigger, more heady wine than the Forgotten Hills, and really delivers expressive notes of roasted blackberry, ripe blueberry, smoked mocha powder, black-pepper salumi, black licorice and potpourri. It’s an incredibly complex wine that changes with time in the glass. Rounding out the palate is medium tannins, medium plus acidity and a balanced full mouthfeel. […] Highly recommended.
Gramercy Cellars “Walla Walla” Syrah Walla Walla Valley 2018
94, Wine and Spirits
More approachable than many of Gramercy’s 2019s, its extra year of bottle gestation has given this wine a supple elegance. It’s mildly smoky, mildly spicy from whole clusters in the fermentation, the flavors of purple plum and mint and olive bearing a quiet hum of energy, held in check by fine, polished tannins. – P.J.C.
Gramercy Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valley 2018
94, Wine Spector
Combines polish with a handsome structure, offering expressive black cherry and plum flavors accented with Asian spices and savory sage. Finishes with medium-grained tannins. Drink now through 2030.
Gramercy Cellars Lower East Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valley 2019
94, Wine Enthusiast
“Are you kidding me? … Load up on this one. Aromas of macerated strawberries, dark cherries and a trace of corn masa are a nice start. Then you get ripe red-raspberry and dark-chocolate flavors that go on forever. This is silky smooth stuff, with nicely integrated tannins.”
Gramercy Cellars Lower East ‘The Bowery’ Columbia Valley 2018
91, Wine Enthusiast
“This is a blend of 46% Carignan, 29% Mourvedre, 15% Grenache and 10% Syrah. The aromas offer notes of soot, cigar box, fresh herb, violet and blue fruit. Soft, plump, exquisitely balanced fruit flavors follow, sailing on the raspberry and herb-filled finish. It shows a lot of elegance and detail, along with straight up enjoyment.”
