A Winemaker’s Vision
Jonathan Maltus, a winemaker with a storied background in Bordeaux, has always been a trailblazer. His journey to Napa Valley in 2008 wasn’t just an exploration; it was a mission to create something extraordinary. Inspired by his Old World roots and driven by a desire to push boundaries, Jonathan brought a distinctly French sensibility to the sun-drenched vineyards of California.
But this wasn’t about transplanting tradition wholesale. Instead, Jonathan set out to harmonize Napa’s breathtaking natural beauty and exceptional terroir with the precision and finesse honed through decades of winemaking experience in Bordeaux.
Nature as the Guiding Force
At the core of World’s End Wines lies an unwavering respect for terroir. Jonathan’s belief is simple: great wine begins in the vineyard. From the historic, gravelly soils of To-Kalon—Napa’s equivalent of Bordeaux’s First Growth vineyards—to the rolling hills of Monterey County and the sun-drenched slopes of Pritchard Hill, every site is chosen for its unique ability to produce exceptional fruit.
This connection to nature doesn’t stop at the vineyard. It carries through to the cellar, where the grapes’ natural qualities are carefully preserved and celebrated. Each wine reflects the land from which it comes, with bold flavors, elegant structures, and a sense of place that’s unmistakable.
The Human Touch
While nature provides the foundation, it’s the human element that brings the wines to life. Jonathan Maltus and his team—including Neil Whyte, a trusted collaborator for more than 25 years—believe in hands-on winemaking. From selecting the finest fruit to blending and aging in French oak, every decision is deliberate and purposeful.
This meticulous attention to detail ensures consistency and quality, year after year. And while the winemaking process is deeply technical, it’s also an art. Jonathan’s passion for rock music infuses the brand, with each wine named after a favorite song. The result? Wines with soul, personality, and a rhythm all their own.
The Collection
World’s End Good Times, Bad Times Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer To Kalon Vineyard 2020
93-Points, James Suckling
“Tile and stone character to the redcurrant and bark aromas and flavors. It’s medium-bodied with juicy and savory fruit and a flavorful finish. Some tar and pine resin, too. Lightly bitter at the end. More reserved than past vintages. Give it two or three years to soften.”
World’s End If Six Was Nine Napa Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve 2019
91-Points, Jeb Dunnuck
“Lastly, the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve If Six Was Nine brings more voluptuousness and opulence, with ripe darker currants, smoked tobacco, and lead pencil notes as well as medium to full-bodied richness on the palate. It’s a ripe, sexy, satisfying Cabernet, as well as a good value.”
World’s End If Six Was Nine Napa Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve 2018
92-Points, James Suckling
“Attractive dark-fruited character with hints of walnuts, chocolate orange and dried leaves. Full-bodied, structured and refined with fine-grained tannins that are compact and a little chewy. Impressive succulence in the middle and hints of nut shell and wet stones to close. Drink or hold.”
World’s End ‘If Six Was Nine’ Napa Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve 2017
92-Points, James Suckling
“Ripe, dark-fruited character with hints of tobacco, ground spices and bark. Firm and structured with compact, polished tannins. It has a deep core of ripe berries and bright acidity. Toned and attractive. Drink or hold.”
World’s End Crossfire Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Missouri Hopper Vineyard 2017
92-Points, James Suckling
“Aromas of black cherries and plums with sweet tobacco, mocha and dark earth. Full and chewy with velvety tannins and plush dark berry character. Lingering and opulent with a chalky, dark-fruited finish. Drink or hold.”
