The Region of Chianti
Wines from Tuscany’s Chianti region have come a long way since the short, round, straw-wrapped bottles of decades past. Today, wine producers remember centuries-old traditions while exploring the benefits of modern technology to embrace a renaissance of high quality wines in a range of styles. Wines from the smaller Chianti Classico zone are regarded as the region’s best.
Here’s what James Suckling, acclaimed wine critic and journalist, has to say about these Tuscan reds:
Chianti Classico Riserva 2019 Castelli di Grevepesa ‘Castelgreve’
Blackberry and dark-cherry aromas with some walnuts and dried flowers. Medium-bodied with chewy tannins and solid fruit. Plenty going on. He rated this wine: 93 points
Castelli del Grevepesa ‘Panzano’ Chianti Classico Gran Selezione 2017
“A flavorful, medium-bodied red with notes of orange zest, cloves, dried cherries and olive stones. Firm yet creamy tannins. Delicious array of spiced red and dark fruit with espresso notes at the end.” James Suckling’s wine score: 93 points
Chianti Classico Gran Selezione 2017 Castelli del Grevepesa ‘Lamole’

Castelli del Grevepesa ‘Coltifredi’ Chianti Classico Riserva 2018

The Winery Collection

Signature wines from the Starmont collection are thoughtfully crafted, approachable, and the perfect accompaniment for any occasion. These wines are consistently the biggest and most concentrated of all the Starmont Pinot Noir programs, showing rich, dense flavors and mouthfeel. The goal of this wine is to retain a varietal correctness with a sense of place.
The Napa Valley AVA: Carneros
Breezes flowing from the San Pablo bay cool down vineyards in Carneros, ensuring the successful cultivation of Burgundian grape varieties. Winemaker Jeff Crawford has crafted Stanly Ranch Estate bottled wines and a selection of vineyard-designated Pinot Noirs from Carneros that are only available from the winery.
Wines produced from Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are the specialty of this cool-climate Carneros AVA and often display a fresh, elegant style. Having begun as a single Chardonnay bottling, the Starmont portfolio now encompasses the best of California’s North Coast wine country with Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc and Rosé offerings alongside the Chardonnay.
