Domaine Barville Chateauneuf-du-Pape
Maison Brotte
Since 1931, five generations of the Brotte family of Maison Brotte at Chateauneuf-du-Pape have crafted, with passion, refined wines that are distinctively smooth, elegantly fruity, and spicy. The Grenache identity, the perfect knowledge of terroirs, the art of vinification, and maturation mainly in 100-year-old large oak barrels give such a unique style to Brotte wines.

History and Vineyard
Domaine Barville is Laurent Brotte's family estate named after his ancestors, the Barville. The 15ha vineyard is situated on the west side of Chateauneuf-du-Pape and is composed of seven parcels spread over two of the best areas of the appellation - clay and pebbles at Pradel, and shattered limestone at Beaurenard. The vines have an average age of 35 years and, at an elevation of 100m, dominate the Rhone River, which, with the local wind 'The Mistral,' brings an exceptional healthy micro-climate. A very warm climate and south-facing position are ideal for perfect maturation and concentration of berries.
Vinification and Maturation
Sustainable viticulture, de-budding, de-leafing, and green harvest to limit the yield and increase the quality. Hand-picking into small cases and fast transportation to the winery to avoid the berries crushing and oxidizing. Destemming and gentle crushing. Fermentation at 28 degrees C followed by a 3-week maceration. The tannic Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvedre are aged in French oak barrels (a combination of new and used), while the softer Grenache is matured in concrete vats and 100-year-old large oak barrels to preserve the fruit. Bottling takes place in March, after more than a year of ageing and a light filtering.
Vintage 2016
An exceptional year. The reds are aromatic, powerful, round, fine, and balanced, while the whites display freshness, unctuosity, full body, and great length.
Tasting Notes
Colour: Ruby with light orange glints
Nose: Spicy and complex, the nose is intense. Black pepper, licorice, truffle, and blackcurrant are in perfect balance.
Palate: A good structure of tannins and freshness make this wine a cuvee for long cellaring. Spicy and supple, the mouth is elegant and rich, with nice flavours of blackcurrant, blackberries, and hints of vanilla and cocoa. With a nice length, this cuvee will seduce wine lovers from today through the next 15 years.
Food and Wine Matching
Serve at 17 degrees C. Open 4 hours in advance. Enjoy with flavourful dishes such as beef Bourguignon, game, BBQ steak, black truffle, and foie gras parcels.

Plump black-cherry and dried strawberry notes are accented by hints of cinnamon, leather and toast in this full-bodied red. Bold in alcohol and richly concentrated, it's a warming, plush wine, but balanced by fresh red-currant acidity and soft, supple tannins. Drink now-2030.

80% Grenache, 15% Syrah, 5% Mourvedre.
Juicy and almost jammy style of red fruit on the nose. Creamy texture with sieved tannin, medium body, well-integrated acidic freshness - this is classic Chateauneuf with balance, generous fruit and a spicy finish. (RH)
