Edicion Limitada Rioja 2013
Winemaking
The grapes used to produce this wine come from nearly 60-year old Tempranillo, Garnacha, and Graciano vines. Grapes are hand-harvested in 15 kg plastic boxes. Bunches are selected one by one on the grape sorting table. Afterward, they are destemmed, crushed, and transferred to stainless steel truncated cones. Controlled fermentation at 27 degrees C. A vertical manual press is used in the process; must is stabilized in stainless steel and subsequently aged for at least 14 months in American and French oak barrels.
Tasting Notes
Dark maroon color. Ripe fruit, plum, blackberries, and licorice aromas over the spicy background of the barrel. Great structure with rounded tannins and a long and persistent mid-palate.

Cedary berry and plum aromas show a touch of raisin along with lemony oak and vanilla notes. On the palate, bright acidity and firm tannins build to create a gripping mouthfeel, while this tastes of toasty oak, coffee with cream, plum and raspberry. Drink through 2030.

Rich dark berry fruits and toasty oak spice. Plenty of modern, slick appeal. The palate has rich and juicy blackberry fruit flavor, smooth and succulent through the finish. Drink now.

The balsamic and oaky 2013 Mileto Edicion Limitada is mostly Tempranillo, with 5% each Garnacha and Graciano. It fermented with selected yeasts and aged in French, American, and Hungarian oak barrels[...] There are notes of cigar ash and incense and a light palate, where the fruit seems to have been dried out by the oak. Quite light.

Sweet-fruited but not confident aromas. Sturdy and herbal, with an almost lemony acidity through the chargrilled fruit. A little crabbed, although the freshness is there. Tannins are dry and sinewy, but there is enough sap on the mid-palate to carry them to the end. Needs some hearty food. (TC)
