2014 Los Olivos Cuvee
Source
Los Olivos District, Santa Ynez Valley
Flavor Profile
This is our version of a Southern Rhone-style blend, though the grapes are grown in cooler growing conditions here on the Central Coast. Its richness and depth are complemented with a nice plum and spice note, leading to an earthy quality and a long, elegant finish.
Winemaking
This wine is 57% Syrah, 29% Mourvedre, and 14% Grenache. The Syrah and Mourvedre come from the Ibarra-Young Vineyard in the Los Olivos District (Santa Barbara County's newest AVA), and the Grenache comes from the Sawyer Lindquist Vineyard in the Edna Valley. The grapes at Ibarra-Young are organically farmed, and the grapes at Sawyer Lindquist are biodynamically farmed. This is a classic Southern Rhone-style blend but from cool-climate vineyard sites. It is so much more elegant in style. And 15 months aged in neutral French oak barrels ensured harmony.
Wines
Here at Qupe, our wines focus on quality, character, and balance. We specialize in Rhone-style wines from the Bien Nacido Vineyard in Santa Maria, which is farmed sustainably, the Sawyer Lindquist Vineyard in the Edna Valley, and the Ibarra-Young Vineyard in Los Olivos, farmed organically.
About Qupe
Qupe (pronounced kyoo-pay') is the Chumash Indian word for California poppy. The Chumash are native to California's Central Coast and the Channel Islands; the California poppy is our state flower.

Qupe 2014 Santa Ynez Valley Los Olivos Cuvee
Rating: 88
There’s a delicious breeziness to this blend of Syrah, Mourvedre and Grenache, its aromas more floral and herbal than most Rhone-inspired California reds. Simple and crunchy, it’s a match for roast pork.

Moving to the reds, the 2014 Los Olivos Cuvee offers a moderately intense array of black raspberry and black cherry fruits, peppery herbs and underbrush (with maybe some olive) in its medium-bodied, charming, nicely textured and thoroughly enjoyable personality. Drink it over the coming couple of years.

The 2014 Cuvee Los Olivos, Qupe's Syrah-based Rhone blend is a forward, supple wine to drink now and over the next few years, while the fruit retains its racy, bold personality.
