Vintage Notes from Winemaker Stefano Chiarlo
The autumn-winter season began with heavy rain in November and moderate snowfall in December. The weather was dry from January until early February, with some snowfall. These conditions allowed the accumulation of an excellent water reserve that proved invaluable for the summer season. February and March were characterized by mild, dry weather. April and May experienced abundant rain that rebalanced the vines, resulting in different germination between the upper and lower parts of the hills. May and June were characterized by hot, dry weather that saw average temperatures rise briefly. The unusual, abundant rain at the beginning of July allowed for gradual ripening. The ideal climate and marked temperature differences between day and night in September and early October have made this vintage exceptional. Harvest was carried out from 6th to 10th October, in line with a classic vintage that yielded fewer grapes of excellent quality.
Profile
Barolo Cerequio 2019 reveals an intense and bright color. The bouquet unveils the distinctive notes of the cru (mint, eucalyptus, sweet spices). A complex wine right from its youth. The mouth is rich and well-defined, revealing a remarkable structure that is perfectly balanced by the dense, silky tannins, denoting a truly outstanding vintage. Vinification and Aging
Fermentation in 55-hl oak vats. Fermentation for 20 days with the skins, using a soft "shower" system to wet the cap at a temperature between 27 and 30 degrees C. Malolactic vat fermentation. Minimum 3 years of refinement. Aged for 2 years in average-sized oak casks before refinement in the bottle.

Tasting Notes: Cerequio is an iconic cru and does not disappoint. Immediately aromas of warmed cherries, mint, eucalyptus and mixed spices breeze in and out of the wine while savory and earth notes try their best to be noticed. Tannins are so well-crafted, they provide a strong foundation but feel light as a feather while fruit, herbs and earth flavors create a triumvirate that would make ancient Rome blush. Drink 2025-2040.

Tasting Notes: The Michele Chiarlo 2019 Barolo Cerequio is a bold and elegantly concentrated expression with good heft and staying power. That extra richness is the secret of this vintage, and this wine carries that weight with ease and grace. Flavors of dark fruit, plum and spice give the wine momentum over the palate. This bottle needs more years of cellar age.

Tasting Notes: A spicy wine with aromas of licorice, potpourri, meat, dried cherries and a hint of leather. Full-bodied with firm tannins and a tense and bony character. Still youthful and tight with a great polished finish. Drink or hold.

Tasting Notes: The 2019 Cerequio has a wonderfully complex aromatic profile, with touches of sottobosco, menthol, orange peel and amaro. Juicy, succulent, zippy and sapid, there's plenty of fleshy cherry, strawberry and raspberry fruit on the palate, along with herbs and a slightly clayey finish with floral overtones, lots of freshness and saline zip. Fine, integrated grainy tannins stay out of the way. Yum!

Tasting Notes: Expressive and well-balanced, the 2019 Barolo Cerequio is packed with fresh pine sap, anise, cherry liqueur, and crushed roses. Seamless on the palate, its pure raspberry fruit is generous up front and through the mid-palate before revealing a more classic structure, with fine, ripe tannins, warming spice, and fantastic length. I would allow another couple of years in the cellar, then drink 2025-2040.

Tasting Notes: Camphor, violet and rose aromas mingle with ripe dark-skinned fruit on this fragrant Barolo. Elegantly structured and focused, the palate delivers juicy Morello cherry, cranberry, mint and licorice before closing on notes of blood orange. Refined tannins and fresh acidity keep it well balanced. Drink 2024-2039.

Tasting Notes: Dense and vibrant, this red exhibits a complex array of aromas and flavors, including cherry, raspberry, rose, menthol, tar and iron. Balanced and long, with a firm grip on the palate-staining finish. Be patient. Best from 2027 through 2047.

Tasting Notes: The 2019 Barolo Cerequio is plump, juicy, and super-expressive. Macerated cherry, spice, new leather, rose petal and blood orange lend nuance to this supple, inviting Barolo from Chiarlo.
