I loved the 2022 Old Vine Pinot Noir from Hyland Estates that boasts a shimmering light ruby-cranberry core with a light red rim in the glass and delivers aromas and flavors of marionberries, dried blueberries, sweet tobacco leaf, smoked cinnamon, and shades of pencil shavings and dried earth. Elegant acidity makes way for the smooth and present tannins finishing with a long blue-fruited note on the back of the palate.

Made with grapes from own-rooted vines that are over a half-century old, this estate wine leads with orange-peel and cherry aromas that complement savory notes of iodine and rare steak. A tasty ripe cherry and graham cracker dust combination is backed by chewy tannins. Enjoy 2024-2035.

The 2022 Pinot Noir Old Vine Estate opens with a mentholated freshness, displaying shavings of pine, mint leaf and dried cherries. Juicy and round, it flows across the palate with ease, mixing red and blue fruits under an air of violet florals. This leaves a spicy sensation, its tart wild berry fruits offset by a tinge of sour citrus through the gently tannic finale.

Youthfully ruby-hued, the 2022 Pinot Noir Old Vine Estate offers a bit more depth on the nose, with notes of baking spice, mixed berries, and sweet herbs. Medium-bodied, with a broader shouldered structure, it’s weightless and floats on the palate with ripe tannins and a clean finish. It’s approachable now but should hold up well over the coming 5-6 years.
