Domaine Tour Saint Michel was first established in 1930 by Michel Fabre. The estate takes its name from the tower on the property which you see as you enter the estate and of course, on the logo which appears on the bottles. The Southern Rhone Valley property has remained in the hands of the same family after having been passed down through three generations of the Fabre family.

Since 2002, Mireille has been in charge of managing Domaine Tour Saint Michel. Domaine Tour Saint Michel owns 36.6 hectares of vines in Chateauneuf-du-Pape. 35 hectares are used in the production of red wine. 1.3 hectares are used to plant grapes to produce Chateauneuf-du-Pape Blanc. Domaine Tour Saint Michel also owns 5 hectares in the Cotes du Rhone appellation.

The Chateauneuf-du-Pape vineyards of Domaine Tour Saint Michel have a terroir filled with rocks, gravel, pebbles and loam soil. The grapes are 100% destemmed.

Domaine Tour Saint Michel produces three red Chateauneuf-du-Pape red wines and one Chateauneuf-du-Pape Blanc in a modern style.

Domaine Tour Saint Michel Cuvee des Deux Soeurs is made from 90% Grenache and 10% Syrah. The wine is aged in a combination of vats, foudres, and French oak barrels for 12-14 months. The production is on average 2,500 cases.

An open knit, sexy yet traditional wine based on 90% Grenache and 10% Syrah, the 2016 Chateauneuf-du-Pape Cuvee des Deux Soeurs reminds me of a street market in one of the small towns in Provence. Huge notes of kirsch, sandalwood, cured meats, and garrigue all emerge from this full-bodied beauty that has tons of fruit and charm. I'd be thrilled to drink bottles anytime over the coming 10-15 years. This is the finest vintage of this cuvee ever produced.

Fresh and lively, with a big ball of raspberry and plum pate de fruit flavors at the core, laced liberally with anise, fruitcake and blood orange coulis notes. A light singed cedar hint adds texture and range on the finish. Best from 2019 through 2028. -JM

A top-notch effort, the 2016 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee des Deux Soeurs is 90% Grenache and 10% Syrah, aged entirely in concrete. For a wine from sites dominated by galets roules, it shows remarkable elegance and style. Raspberry and apricot shadings deliver plenty of ripe fruit flavor, and while the wine is full-bodied, it's silky, zesty and lively at the same time. It should drink well for a decade.

Brilliant ruby-red. Ripe red berry, lavender and garrigue aromas are complemented by a smoky mineral nuance that builds in the glass. Juicy, supple and appealingly sweet, offering rounded raspberry and cherry flavors that deepen with air. Cherry cake, subtle floral notes, very savoury finish with chewy tannin that will age well, and impressive persistence. Lovely purity and intensity of fruit. Open-knit flavour with firm structure – an appealing combination. (RH)
