2014 Pierre Leon Pinot Noir
Willakenzie Estate
WillaKenzie is named after the sedimentary soil on which our estate is planted - a tribute to Oregon's two major rivers, the Willamette and the McKenzie, which meet in nearby Eugene. Founded in 1992 and located in Yamhill-Carlton, our picturesque, 420-acre estate is deeply rooted in the heart of Oregon's wine country. As the first LIVE certified winery in the Northwest, stewardship of the land and preservation of the diversity of our local ecosystem are at the forefront of our vineyard management and winemaking. WillaKenzie Estate features the most clonal diversity in the Willamette Valley, with over 11 different clones of Pinot planted - enabling blend complexity and texture. Our Pinot Noirs, Chardonnays, and Pinot Gris showcase the elegance of the Willamette Valley AVA we call home.
Yamhill-Carlton, Willamette Valley
Located in northwestern Oregon, the Willamette Valley is one of the world's leading winegrowing regions with a specific focus on cool-climate viticulture. Long, dry summers at a moderate temperature, well-drained and porous soils, and exposed hillsides make the Willamette Valley ideal for growing Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Pinot Gris - the region's most prominent varietals. WillaKenzie Estate is located within the Yamhill-Carlton AVA, a sub-appellation in the northern Willamette Valley. Yamhill-Carlton is known for producing Pinot Noirs of great depth and intensity, and this wine is a true reflection of its origin.
Tasting Notes
The Pierre Leon Pinot Noir was sourced from select blocks on the WillaKenzie Estate. This wine is dark garnet in color with plums, spice, anise, and hints of oak and leather on the nose. The smooth mouthfeel begins with a touch of sweetness and gives way to flavors of vanilla, brandied cherries, and blueberry compote. This wine has balanced acidity and refined tannins and will age nicely for up to a decade.

An absolutely gorgeous bottling, the 2014 WillaKenzie Estate 'Pierre Leon' impresses with its earthy terroir and dark fruit flavors. Initially slightly more reticent on the nose than some of the other new releases from this estate, this Pinot Noir has intoxicating aromatics of Shitake mushroom, forest floor, black cherry, wild blackberry, and smoky accents. There are rich flavors of black cherry, black truffle, black plum, anise, and spicebox accents. This has a lingering finish that coats the mid-palate. The mouthfeel and viscosity are excellent, as is its dazzling minerality. Be sure to give this beautiful wine some air contact if approaching now. (Best 2016-2026) - November, 2016 (OB)

This is juicy, almost jammy, with forward flavors of strawberry candy that fill the mouth and hang tight. There's a light hint of pepper around a lingering, clean finish. It's full, forward and fruit-powered.
