About the Producer
Chateau du Rocher is one of the oldest growers in Saint Etienne de Lisse. The du Rocher family passed it on in 1731 to the illustrious Grailly family, from which the present owners are descendants. Melding heritage, tradition, and respect towards the land, Baron de Montfort offers a range of organic wines (Ecocert certified). In Puisseguin, he also manages Chateau Lagrange Monbadon - family-owned since the 16th century.

Vineyard Notes
The estate, which is a single 16-hectare property, is almost entirely planted to vines. The clay and limestone subsoil, ferruginous in many parts, gives the wines a powerful aroma in their early years, but as they age, they acquire all the organic finesse and characteristic bouquet of Saint Emilion. Grape varieties are adapted to soil and subsoil and include Merlot (70%), Cabernet Sauvignon (15%), and Cabernet Franc (15%). Vines are on average 30 years old. Vine growth is controlled for improved quality and harvest. Treatments and enrichments are made with natural products to protect our environment.

Production Notes
Ageing in French oak barrels lasts 12 months and ensures an annual production of approximately 70,000 bottles.

Tasting Notes
Pleasant red fruit aromas with subtle tannins. Sustained ruby colour. Well balanced and harmonious in the mouth. This wine can be aged, showing increasing finesse and bouquet, but can also be enjoyed now with starters and light meats.

The 2015 du Rocher has a clean and pure red cherry and cranberry scented bouquet with hints of clove and undergrowth. The palate is medium-bodied with soft tannin, but there is far too much new oak here that dominates the chocolaty finish. Tasted at the Oenoconseil tasting room in Bordeaux. Neal Martin.
