History
Started in 1983 by two prominent Howell Mountain vineyard owners, Howell Mountain Vineyards and its wines have been an integral part of the emergence and development of this AVA in the wine industry. Today, led by Mike Beatty, grower of the famed Beatty Ranch, Howell Mountain Vineyards continues to focus on quality in the vineyards while embracing bio-harmonic principles.

Vintage Notes
The 2013 vintage in Napa will go down as one of the best vintages in recent history. With near-ideal spring bud break and steady powering producing an even fruit set, the 2013 vintage provided a near-record crop with high-quality fruit. A lengthy stretch of warm days and cool nights during the long summer months produced fruit with a nice balanced structure and acidity. This growing season lead to beautifully complex ripe fruit that is clearly exhibited in our wines from 2013.

Tasting Notes
Our 2013 Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon reflects the characteristics produced by the near-perfect growing season. In the glass, the wine exhibits a bouquet of blackberries, creme de cassis, and black cherry cola. On the palate, the wine produces lush berry notes followed by dark black currant across a velvet-textured mid-palate that show the multiple layers and depth of this wine. On the finish, pronounced tannins provide structure and focus, producing deep dark fruit and hints of tobacco that linger through a long finish that produces a lasting impression.

Winemaking Philosophy
Our belief is to focus on making wine "in the field" and letting the unique terroir of Howell Mountain come through in every bottle. Striving for balance with regards to alcohol, pH, and oak treatments, our winemaker employs a minimal interventionist philosophy, taking full advantage of the distinctive terroir and the natural factors that make the Howell Mountain appellation so unique. Minimal use of only fine French oak barrels is utilized in the winemaking process only to support the wine and not to distract from the unique Howell Mountain characteristics. We embrace proven, old-world winemaking methods using native yeast, natural secondary fermentation, and minimal racking with no fining or filtering to help ensure that the true Howell Mountain terroir is expressed in every glass.

Perfumed in cherry, vanilla and cassis, this wine offers dusty brawny tannins that surround a silky supple palate of pronounced texture. Sticky on the finish, it has room to age. It is enjoyable now in its firm grasp of ripe fruit and layered depth.
