Plush black plum and preserved cherry flavors are soft and fleshy in this profoundly ripe, inky blend of Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre and Cinsault. Dashes of dried sage and wild mint lend a touch of elegance to the midpalate, as do fine, feathery tannins on the finish. At peak now–2027.

This has a ripe edge with plenty of concentration to carry it through. Aromas of ripe plums and blueberries lead to a palate that has a super fleshy and richly stated, fresh finish. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold.

Full-bodied, creamy, supple, and lush, the 2017 Chateauneuf du Pape is already highly enjoyable. Ripe cherries and stone fruit pick up hints of brown sugar, then finish with mouthwatering freshness. No, it's not super complex or intense, but it delivers a mouthful of succulent fruit perfectly matched with silky tannins for drinking over the next 7-8 years.

Chateauneuf Du Pape, Southern Rhone
Red wine from France
Shimmering ruby-red. High-toned red currant, cherry, and floral scents pick up a hint of smokiness with air. Sappy and precise on the palate, offering bitter cherry and red fruit preserve flavors and a spicy jolt of white pepper. The floral note comes back strong on the persistent finish, which features fine-grained tannins and resonating red fruit character.

Round, supple and juicy, with a soft, peppery, kirsch, cherry and plum filled finish. I like the spicy, pepper end note that accompanies the black raspberries and kirsch. The wine was blended with 60% Grenache, 15% Syrah, 15% Mourvedre and 10% Cinsault.

A classic Grenache-dominated blend (there are smaller amounts of Syrah, Mourvedre, and Cinsault), the 2017 Chateauneuf Du Pape has a deep purple color as well as powerful notes of blackcurrants, ground pepper, leather, and wild herbs. Rich, meaty, medium to full-bodied, and concentrated, it's a classic, rugged 2017 that packs ample fruit and richness. Drink it over the coming 10-15 years.

Tasted blind. Dark purple color, highly confected nose with loads of extraction on the palate - furry tannin, dense fruit, and a varnish aroma is suggesting high acetones. Leaves an impression of trying too hard. (RH)
