Revered wine critic Jancis Robinson calls Napa Valley's 2012 growing season "a banner year," so this library release from Sodaro Winery is cause for celebration! Their Estate Blend hailed from the cooler-climate Coombsville AVA, where Cabernet Sauvignon vines yielded the healthy, complex fruit that dominates the cuvee. Smaller portions of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Malbec provide additional depth and aromatic nuance to a concentrated core of blackberry, violet, savory spice, and toasty mocha notes. Enjoy substantial savings and free shipping on two or more bottles while supplies last.

2012 Estate Blend
Source
Sodaro Estate Vineyard, Coombsville region, Napa Valley, California
Climate
The Coombsville region is cooler than the rest of Napa Valley because of the exposure to wind and fog from the San Pablo Bay. This allows grapes to ripen to full maturation without increasing the average Brix at harvest.
Soil
Bale clay, gravel, and Sobrante loam
Vinification
The 2012 wines were crafted from our estate-grown fruit and aged 22 months in 100% French oak. It is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Malbec.
Vintage Details
The 2012 growing season was close to perfect, presenting few challenges. A fairly mild spring led to near-ideal bud break, uniform flowering, and even fruit set. Relatively cool weather conditions throughout the summer months, with warm days and cool, foggy nights, allowed for long, even ripening. The fairly mild weather pattern allowed us to wait patiently for fruit maturity and harvest on our terms, without rush and worry of rain, rot, or sunburn. Our yields were high and the quality stellar, with classic acid to sugar balance. Age worthy wines dark in color and rich in concentrated flavors are the marvelous result of this gorgeous growing season.
Tasting Notes
Our 2012 Sodaro Estate Blend displays deep, dense, dark, rich purple hues with aromatic wafting notes of ground espresso beans, dark berries, and licorice. Blackberry, blackcurrant, and blueberry flavors are concentrated yet balanced, and tannins are sweet and well-integrated with the fruit and acidity. The finish is long and classic, providing layer upon layer of flavor with a satisfying full mouthfeel.

Sodaro Estate Winery, Coombsville, Napa Valley (California) Estate Blend 2012
This winery is making some noise of late at competitions, having recently taken the Best of Show honors at the Toast of the Coast with the 2007 version of this wine. The 2012 shows great promise, with classic blackberry, cassis, graphite and subtle spice just starting to come together. They certainly will. This is a winery to watch! A Platinum Award winner at the 2017 Monterey International Wine Competition.

This Cabernet Sauvignon-based blend is supported by 18% Merlot and smaller amounts of Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec. Generous in oak and tannin, this powerful wine is robustly juicy in black and red cherry and dried herb, a complex mix of savory and succulent. The finish is long and thick, accented in coffee and oak.
