2013 Estate Blend
Appellation
Sodaro Estate Vinyard, Coombsville Region, Napa Valley, California
Climate
The Coombsville region is cooler than the rest of Napa Valley because of the exposure to wind and fog from the San Pablo Bay. This allows the grapes to ripen to full maturation without increasing the average brix at harvest.
Terroir
Bale clay, forward gravelly, and Sobrante loam
Vinification
All Sodaro Estate wines are crafted by Denis and May-Britt Malbec from our estate-grown fruit. Aged in 100% French oak, this is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (71%), Cabernet Franc (14%), Merlot (8%), Malbec (4%), and Petit Verdot (3%).
Vintage
The 2013 growing season began early, with a warm and dry spring, and the weather stayed beautiful through to an early harvest.
Tasting Notes
Offers plenty of plum, violets, and inky pen notes as well as medium to full-bodied richness, bright acidity, excellent purity of fruit, and a clean finish

Coombsville, Napa Valley
Red wine from United States
Drinking window: 2020 - 2030
The 2013 Estate Blend is built on a core of Cabernet Sauvignon, with healthy dollops of Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Malbec, and Petit Verdot. Powerful and sinewy in the glass, 2013, speaks with an authoritative voice. Raspberry jam, white chocolate, spice, and new French oak suggest a racy wine, but the tannins are still pretty tightly wound. Then again, we are talking about 2013. I would prefer to give the Estate Blend a bit more time in bottle to see if it becomes more welcoming. There is good potential here.

The 2013 Estate Blend (71% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Cabernet Franc, 8% Merlot, 4% Malbec, 3% Petit Verdot) comes from estate vineyards in Coombsville and spent 23 months in 70% new French oak. It offers plenty of plum, violets, and inky pen notes as well as medium to full-bodied richness, bright acidity, excellent purity of fruit, and a clean finish. It’s still youthful and backward, and needs 4-5 years to hit prime time, but will keep for 15-20 years.

The deep garnet-purple colored 2013 Estate Blend, made up of 71% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Cabernet Franc, 8% Merlot, 4% Malbec, and 3% Petit Verdot, is scented of sautéed herbs, damp soil, and moss-covered bark over a black and red currant core with touches of bay leaves and stewed plums. The medium to full-bodied mouth is firm and chewy with plenty of freshness lifting the earthy palate, finishing with an herbal lift.
