Alta Napa Valley's 2017 Carneros Pinot Noir opens with gentle aromas of ripe berries, sweet cinnamon sticks, charred orange zest, and withered rose petals. Background
Alta means "height" in Spanish and perfectly describes the mountainside site of the Alta home vineyard in the Atlas Peak district of the Napa Valley, as well as owners Fred and Nina Oliai's aspirations to craft only the best possible, limited release wines from the region.

Production
From the famed Stanly Ranch Vineyards. The vineyards are situated next to the Napa River, where the river joins with the San Pablo Bay. 100% Pinot Noir is hand-harvested and gently fermented over 20 days. Aged 18 months in 30% new French oak barrels.

Tasting Notes
The medium ruby-purple wine gives up red and black cherries, red current and violets with hints of dried herbs. The finish is framed by soft tannins and a racy acid line, long, tangy, with a firm texture. Medium-bodied with lovely expression and length, it's a charming and supple wine to enjoy now or until 2026.

Coming from the Carneros region, the 2017 Pinot Noir has a spicy, leafy herb, and orange blossom bouquet as well as bright cherry fruit, medium body, and a supple, charming, simple style. Drink it over the coming 3-4 years.
