Sage Ridge Vineyard Red Wine 2017
Vinification
Hand-harvested at night and delivered cold to the winery for processing. Destemmed, hand-sorted, and gravity-fed to small open-top tanks. Spontaneous yeast fermentation. Spontaneous malolactic fermentation in barrel. Natural settling for clarification. Bottled unfined and unfiltered.
Vintage Notes
Ample spring rain preceded a long summer of very warm days and cold nights. The vines escaped the influence of October fires, and the result is a gorgeous, faceted wine of great purity and depth.
Tasting Notes
Dark ruby in color with a fragrant nose of red fruits, black tea, and violets. The palate is full and broad, with blueberry, cassis, and dark cocoa that persist over a lasting finish with silky tannins and a touch of graphite.

From a high-elevation site planted on the eastern flank of St. Helena, this impresses in black cherry, dust, gravel and iron. Broad, integrated tannin and oak belie a powerful structure and length that has years to go to find complete cohesion. Enjoy best from 2027-2032.

A very big red, offering lots of dried fruit with blackberries, tar and raisins. Full-bodied with round tannins and plenty of fruit at the finish. Slightly alcoholic at the end. A little old-school, but some will really like it.

Composed of 73% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Cabernet Franc, 5% Merlot, 2% Malbec and 2% Petit Verdot, the 2017 Red Blend Sage Ridge Vineyard offers notions of balsamic and prunes with a hoisin and vaguely spicy undercurrent. The medium to full-bodied palate has a good core of fruit and chewy tannins, but the nose and finish are just a little too volatile.
