~Windrows Cellars 2016 Oakville Napa Valley Red Blend~
(Alc: 14.50%)
By Windrow Cellars
Red Wine Oakville
Tasting Notes
Artfully crafted, this succulent blend maximizes complexity and brings the interplay of varietal flavors into perfect harmony. Full and lush on the palate, with fine-grained, well-integrated tannins, this red wine, sourced from prestigious Oakville vineyards, weaves together a rich and complex array of black cherry, plum, spice box, and cocoa. Toasty oak with layers of vanilla provides a long lingering finish to this plush, fruity wine.
Vintage Notes
Our 2016 Merlot and Cabernet crop was consistent with the last few years and maintained smaller yields with slightly smaller clusters. The quality of these lower yields was high overall. We are excited by the vintage's quality. A few intervals of heat spikes early on caused some initial concerns, but in general, the weather became much more temperate, producing yet another exceptional vintage.
Vineyard Notes
Merlot and Cabernet sourced from Oakville with other components sourced from various vineyards throughout Napa Valley - St Helena, Rutherford, Yountville, and Pope Valley.

Tasting Notes
This sparkling wine is made from our best grapes. It is light straw-yellow colored, and it has a light froth and a fine and persistent perlage. Its flower and fruit notes recall golden apple, banana, and wisteria. Serre Prosecco has a peculiar sweetish and velvety flavor. Good as an aperitif, it can be served at the end of a meal, especially with creamy desserts.
Location
The name 'Serre' has a meaning that is closely espoused with the land. In fact, it is the name of a location appearing on maps, which stands for a "valley which opens and then closes." The Serre agribusiness sits right within a "valley which opens and then closes" in the municipality of Combai di Miane, a small town in the Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG production district of Conegliano and Valdobbiadene, in the Province of Treviso. Its lands have become famous for 'marroni' or large chestnuts harvested among majestic, century-old chestnut trees.
Vineyard Notes
The Serre farm business today manages 18 hectares of terrain, most of which are vineyards. The rest are meadows and wooded areas. The quality of the terrain is ideal for producing sparkling wines, where the average slope is 30%, and thus, the viniculture is more similar to that found in the mountains than that found in the hills. Machinery cannot access this area, so the operations are all done by hand, and materials are still moved using back baskets. Therefore, the yields are often limited and hardly ever amount to 130 quintals per hectare, as foreseen by the Regulations for Origin control. The terrain is a mix of clay and rock substrata. The hot summer weather, when grapes ripen, is eased by the capricious breezes blowing from north to south across an open amphitheater down to the plains which reach the sea.
Farming Notes
The vines farmed in the Serre vineyards are the traditional, autochthonous ones that make up the grape types of Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG, Verdiso, Bianchetta, and Perea. The farming techniques are the usual double arched cane and cappuccino for the Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG and Verdiso vineyards. For the farming of red wines, we opted to keep the sylvoz and introduced the guyot methods. It is the features of the terrain, which interact with the weather conditions, along with the utmost care given by the Serre wine farmers, that enable the wine to express those terroir qualities, thus making one wine better than another.
