Cuvee des Deux Soeurs 2019
Estate History
Domaine Tour Saint Michel was first established in 1930 by Michel Fabre. The estate takes its name from the tower on the property, which you see as you enter the estate and appears on their logo. The Southern Rhone Valley property has remained in the same family's hands after being passed down by three generations of the Fabre family. Since 2002, Mireille has been in charge of managing Domaine Tour Saint Michel.
Vineyard
Domaine Tour Saint Michel owns 36.60 hectares of vines in Chateauneuf du Pape. Thirty-five hectares produce red wine, while 1.30 hectares are planted for Chateauneuf du Pape Blanc.
Terroir
The Chateauneuf du Pape vineyards of Domaine Tour Saint Michel have a terroir filled with rocks, gravel, pebbles, and loam soil.
Production
Domaine Tour Saint Michel Cuvee des Deux Soeurs is made from 80% Grenache, 15% Syrah, 3% Mourvedre, and 2% Cinsault. The grapes are 100% destemmed. The wine is aged in a combination of vats, foudres, and French oak barrels for 12-14 months.

Notes of sun-drenched black cherry and strawberry preserves are sonorous in this fruit-forward, piercing blend [...] It highlights all of Grenache's red-fruited delights and soft, pillowy tannins along with a twist of Syrah's peppery, brambly spice. Delightful young, it should maintain peak through 2030 at least.

Cherries, strawberry, and spicy kirsch notes are found easily on the nose and palate. The wine is soft, fresh, and filled with generous layers of ripe red berries with a touch of spice and herbs in the finish. Give this a year or two of age, and it will be hitting its stride. Brilliant ruby-red. Strongly perfumed scents of ripe red fruits and lavender are accompanied by exotic spice and blood orange nuances. Supple and expansive on the palate, offering sweet raspberry, cherry and floral pastille flavors underscored by a smoky mineral element. Well-concentrated but lithe as well, finishing juicy and quite long, with lingering, spice-tinged red fruit character and slow-building tannins.

The 2019 'Cuvee des deux Soeurs' begins with a lovely aromatic profile of fresh black raspberries and dark cherries, which come with together herbs, lavender and hints of licorice. On the palate this possesses a wonderful medium-full body with a rich, vibrant core that displays excellent concentration and focus through the finish. This is already outstanding, but should continue to develop beautifully over the course of the next decade.

Bright and juicy, with a ball of red licorice, plum and red currant paste flavors, pushed by fresh acidity, carried with a lively iron twinge throughout. Best from 2023 through 2035. — JM
