2017 Barolo
Wine Details
Region: Piedmont
Country: Italy
Wine Composition: 100% Nebbiolo
Description
This Barolo is garnet-red in color, with fine aromas of chocolate, toast, and spice from aging in wood. It has great structure and big tannins.
Terroir
The Nebbiolo grapes come from vineyards located in the Barolo region, 300 to 400 feet above sea level. The average age of the vines is 50 years, and they are grown southwest and southern facing. The soil is calcareous clay.
Production Details
After harvesting, the grapes are pressed, and the must is fermented in temperature-controlled steel tanks after a short period in contact with dry ice to increase complexity and aroma. Skin maceration takes place over 15 days, assuring good color and body. The wine spends 36 months in French oak casks, followed by six months in bottles before shipping.
Serving Hints
This wine is a great accompaniment to red meats and an array of Italian cheeses, pasta, and risotto.

LUCA BOSIO VINEYARDS BAROLO 2017

Country: Italy
Region: Piedmont
Vintage: 2017
Score: 92
Quite an exotic, fruity nose with ripe red berries, mild spice, red licorice and floral notes. Medium-to full-bodied with the same spicy fruit character, riding over very compact, fine and lightly firm tannins. I like the intensity of fruit here, which makes it inviting now. But wait a couple of years for the tannins to subside. Drink after 2022.

Spice, pine forest and new leather aromas slowly take shape in the glass. The linear, medium-bodied palate offers cranberry, licorice and a hint of smoke alongside taut, slightly grainy tannins. Drink through 2027.

The Luca Bosio 2017 Barolo shows savory notes, with dried fruit, tar, leather, tilled earth and pressed blue flower. The hot vintage leaves its mark on the ripeness of the fruit and the wine's plush texture. The wine is a bit monotone overall, although the tannins are integrated and soft.

The aromatics of the 2017 Barolo are introspective and a little closed off at this youthful state, with dried black cherry, tobacco and baked earth. The palate is more expressive with black plum skin, clove, and espresso as well as firm and building tannins. Drink 2022-2032.
