Story
The winery is a collaboration between owner Antony Beck of Graham Beck winery in South Africa and Ken Wright of Ken Wright Cellars in Oregon. Beck purchased the renowned Abbott Claim vineyard in 2012 from Wright. Planted in 2001, the 16-acre property is older and slightly more established than our flagship Angela Estate Pinot. Abbott Claim was named after John F. Abbott, who possessed the original Donation Land Claim in 1860.

Profile
The 2014 vintage was a warmer year with three weeks of early bud break extending hang time on the vine. This vintage was very generous in terms of yield and phenolic development, lush and plush. The vineyard sits on ancient marine sedimentary soils that lend blacker fruit, slightly velvet tannins, and a curvacious mouthfeel to the wine. We planted plusher Pinot Noir clones Pommard, Dijon 777, and 115 to complement the muscularity of the soils. Aromas and flavors are red currants, cherry cola, forest floor, cedar sprigs, ripe raspberry, sweet pipe tobacco, and root beer.

Very pale ruby in color, the 2014 Pinot Noir Abbott Claim is scented of cranberry, rhubarb and strawberry with nuances of spice and wood smoke. Light to medium-bodied, it gives plenty of bright red fruit in the mouth with grainy tannins and just enough refreshing acidity, finishing spicy.
