Wine Details
Chateau Carbonnieux red has for centuries been a great classic from the region of Bordeaux. With its high standard of quality, it is the smooth result of an excellent blending of grape varieties from this region. The vinification, both modern and traditional of red wines, is carried out by slow and gentle extraction to preserve the roundness of the wine and the mineral features of the soil. The tannins are well balanced and silky in harmony with red fruits (blackcurrant, blackberry, cherry) and reveal toasted notes from aging in the finest French oak barrels. Only the very best batches tasted are selected for the final blending of Chateau Carbonnieux red wines.

2015, the magic of "5." Bordeaux remembers the mythical 1945, 75 or more recently 85, 95, and 2005. Perfect weather along the vegetative cycle allows 2015 to follow the 10-year legend for the marvelous vintages produced in years ending in "5."
Tasting Notes
Deep, intense, almost crimson color. The nose is expressive and fruity. The attack is fresh, then evolves towards a generous tannic structure, characteristic of great wines with aging potential. The majority of the Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend provides volume and a remarkably long finish. The Merlot and the Petit Verdot add aromatic complexity and a certain delicacy to the wine.

The firm tannins in this wine are dense and concentrated, ripe rather than dry. The fruit and juicy acidity give the wine richness and crispness at the same time. It has a great future. Drink from 2025.

Attractive dark red fruits, subtle liquorice and gently insisting tannins. One that will deliver pleasure earlier than some. There’s a silky approachability, but it should also develop well.

[...]. Classic notes of black cherries, ground herbs, licorice, and hints of earth all emerge from this medium-bodied, concentrated, structured Pessac that has ripe tannin and a good finish. It's backward and tight, and needs 4-5 years of bottle age but should last for two decades.

Medium garnet-purple in color, the 2015 Carbonnieux is very earthy with fallen leaves, mossy bark and damp soil notions with a core of red currants and black raspberries plus a waft of wild thyme. The medium-bodied palate is firm, grainy and fresh with delicate red fruits and an earthy finish.

Offers enticing cassis, raspberry and cherry paste flavors, showing flashes of mulling spice, sweet tobacco and warm earth. The plush structure gives this a suave and accessible feel through the finish, with a perfumed hint to boot. This should be very charming with short-term cellaring. Best from 2019 through 2027. — JM

Pessac-Leognan, Bordeaux
Red wine from France
The 2015 Carbonnieux has a crisp blackberry and bilberry scented bouquet with light pencil shaving aromas developing with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, a little pinched at the moment but with sufficient freshness on the finish. Not bad, but it needs a couple of years to knit together. Tasted blind at the Southwold 2015 Bordeaux tasting.

Medium bodied, energetic, soft, earthy expression, that already shows an elegant, easy to drink charm. The finish delivers ripe, sweet, red berries and tobacco. This will be a pleasure to well early in life, yet it can be aged for more complexity.

Tasted blind. Gamey nose. Big and bloody. Tannins a tad rustic but it should last well.
