2013 Horseleap Vineyard Pinot Noir

Producer
Seufert Winery is a small producer in the heart of Oregon's Willamette Valley. Seufert showcases how Pinot Noir responds to terroir by producing small lots of single-vineyard wines. They work closely with family growers located around the northern Willamette Valley, focused on growing premium Pinot Noir. Once harvested, Seufert takes a light hand in the winery, allowing the unique character to shine through from each site.

Origin
Horseleap Vineyard grows five acres of Pinot Noir southwest of Portland on the edges of suburban Tigard. They planted Pommard and Dijon 777 clones in 2001. Their site overlooks the Tualatin River Valley at 300' elevation.

Vintage
2013 progressed as an ideal vintage with an early start to the growing season and warm summer. These grapes were picked on September 26, a few days after a series of wet fronts moved through the region. At harvest, these grapes were 22.5 Brix and pH 3.4.

This Wine
These Pinot Noir grapes were carefully hand-sorted and fully destemmed. Each small fermentation tank received a different yeast to add layers of complexity. Each tank was gently punched down twice per day until pressing. It aged two years in 20% new French oak before bottling.

Tasting Notes
Smoky damp campfire with prominent blackberry and herbal undertones in�the glass. Slightly tart on the palate. Thimbleberry, juniper, and charred nut notes�harmonize the large structured presence. An evenly balanced finish brings lengthy�tannins and a subtle unveiling of minerality.
