2016 Gypsy Rouge Red Hills Lake County
Wine Details
Our 2016 Gypsy Rouge is truly a reflection of the Sol Rouge Estate. A blend of Grenache, Mourvedre, Cinsaut, Syrah, and Counoise, all coming from the Sol Rouge estate vineyard and its Rhone varietal plantings. The name embodies the spirit of the wine - fun, lavish, wild, free-willed, exciting, and interesting.
Vineyard Notes
Sol Rouge is a family estate in the Mayacamas Mountains at elevations averaging over 1,800 feet. North of Napa, in the foothills of a dormant volcano that formed the North Coast wine country. In the Red Hills appellation of Lake County, this land contains rich, red volcanic soil. Sol Rouge derived its name from this unique profile - translating to 'red soil' in French. This 70-acre estate is planted with Syrah, Grenache, Mourvedre, Cinsaut, Counoise, Zinfandel, Petite Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc in a 'high vine density' configuration, allowing each vine to focus on fewer clusters of fruit, leading to greater complexity. Nestled between Mt. Konocti and Benson Ridge, this aggressive site is all hillside with slopes up to 60% and is said to be the most aggressive and tightly planted vineyard in the Red Hills, with nearly 6,000 vines per hectare in some blocks.

Tasting Notes
Exhibiting hints of lavender in the nose, our Gypsy Rouge evolves into a spicy mid-palate and finishes with bright berry notes of strawberry, dark cherry, and Asian spice. The result is a truly fascinating wine you will enjoy drinking on its own or pairing with fish, sushi, or a wide variety of meats such as chicken, lamb, or barbecue.
