The Diamond Mountain District is located in northwestern Napa Valley in the Mayacamas Mountains. Located 1,750 feet above the valley floor, the steep slopes of SummitVine Ranch allowed us only 6 of the meager 550 acres planted to vines in this highly revered AVA. With our porous volcanic soils and high-elevation climate, our vines produce distinctive earthy flavors wrapped around rich, opulent, and beautifully integrated tannins.

2017 Growing Conditions
As you may know, the 2017 Tubbs Fire started the day before we were supposed to harvest. Unbeknownst to us, two other fires started here in Napa County, and the chaos that ensued had a major impact on lives, infrastructure, and farming. We were able to get a crew in to harvest eight days later, and by that time, our fruit had all but disappeared, resulting in an almost 70% loss. My other grape buyer and I agreed that I could keep all the "blend" grapes in exchange for just enough Cabernet to produce and continue our string of vintages.

Tasting Notes
The growing conditions throughout the season and unexpected additional hang time added deeper color to this vintage. With care during vinification, it retained the aromas of bright red fruit, rose petals, and violet. Vanilla adds to the beautiful nose of this wine. The full depth of flavor comes with time in your glass. Your patience will reward you with a combination of flavors a blend like this can provide. Experience the red fruit flavors of raspberry and cherry with mocha and toffee, all supported by soft, plush tannins. This wine will unfold, with patience, now and in your cellar.
