CHATEAU PALAIS CARDINAL ST.-EMILION LA RESERVE 2020
Sunday, May 14, 2023
Country: France
Region: Bordeaux
Vintage: 2020
Score: 92
A solid and tight 2020 with blackberries, bramble berries and burnt orange aromas and flavors. Medium-bodied, round and juicy tannins and a cedar, berry finish with hints of nutmeg. A little austere from the tannins. Drink after 2025.

Place of Origin: France, Bordeaux
Color: Red
Rating: 91
Drinking Window: 2025 - 2035
From: Bordeaux 2020: Saving the Best for Last (Feb 2023)
The 2020 La Reserve is a very pretty second wine. It offers up deep dark cherry fruit, leather, licorice, spice and dried herbs, all in a mid-weight style that is quite attractive. There's real depth and character here.

Deep purple-black colored, the 2020 La Reserve delivers pure notes of crushed blackberries, boysenberries and kirsch, plus suggestions of mossy tree bark and unsmoked cigars. The medium-bodied palate is chock-full of crunchy black and red fruits, framed by a lively backbone and rounded tannins, finishing with a refreshing lift.

The 2020 Chateau Palais Cardinal La Reserve comes from more gravelly, sandy soils and is [...] Merlot, [...] Cabernet Sauvignon, and the rest Cabernet Franc [...]. Ripe red fruits (strawberries, raspberries) as well as floral and spicy nuances emerge from this medium-bodied, mid-weight, enjoyable yet firm Saint-Emilion. Give it a year and drink through 2029.
