Method

Harvest and Vinification
Mechanical and traditional harvest, last generation sorting table, concrete vatting. Harvest on the 21st and 22nd of September for Merlot and the 5th of October for Cabernet Franc.

Aging
Sixteen months in French oak (70% new barrels, 30% one-wine barrels).

This shows a dark fruit character with notes of pine wood, spices, walnut and toast. Medium- to full-bodied with layers of creamy tannins, velvety texture and freshly acidity. Firm finish. Try after 2024.

Always a solid wine, the 2020 Chateau Belle Assise Coureau is no exception and exhibits a ruby/purple hue, perfumed aromatics of red and blue fruits, leather, spring flowers, and camphor, medium body, fine yet building tannins, and outstanding length. Give this balanced, textured, impressive Saint-Emilion a few years in the cellar and enjoy over the following decade.

Dark berries on the nose, some green peppercorns, dried herbs and blackcurrants. Fresh and lively, a lovely red fruit tang on the palate, high acidity comes across as a touch austere on the mid palate, but softens quite quickly with fine powdery tannins giving wet slate, graphite and pencil lead tang to the finish. Still has some tension and bite, but feels well worked with precision and clarity. Fruity too, really lovely juicy and succulent cherries and strawberries, but the liquorice, metallic edge is quite prominent and does detract from the overall enjoyment at this stage with some bitter dark chocolate on the end.
